Dipinto n°2 (Painting #2), 40 x 40 inches (100 x 100 cm). Frame: dyed solid maple and charred pine using the Yakisugi method. Mixed media on canvas (acrylics, asphalt, and others). Marina Elizalde, Buenos Aires, Argentina
Dipinto n˚2, an abstract composition by Marina Elizalde, is a matteric work inspired by natural elements, particularly air and gaseous forms. The stark contrast between the plasticity of the pictorial matter and the lightness of the subject creates a sense of suspension. The use of asphalt in the bottom part of the composition evokes the idea of combustion, and the frame builds on this concept by employing wood treated with the Yakisugi technique. In this technique, the wood is charred, burned, and treated with a live flame until its surface acquires a deep charcoal black color.
